Overview

Welcome to le Moulin du Clapier, a 15th Century old French Manor house in the heart of the Dordogne region of South West France. Ideally located between Périgueux and Thiviers and less than 1km from the local village of Sorges, le Moulin du Clapier provides a great base for exploring the local area and all the attractions it has to offer.

Ideal for families who wish to holiday together or alone the two gites cater for up to 10 people offering outdoor dining, heated shared swimming pool and tranquil gardens surrounded by rolling hills and fields of sunflowers and corn.

Perfect for getting away from it all and spending quality time with the people who matter the most in a tranquil and beautiful location.

About the Property

la Vieille Vigne, or the old grape wine in its day was a former butcher’s shop during the time when the house was run as a corn mill. The gite has 3 bedroom and can comfortably sleep up to 6 guests.

There is also a sofa bed in the lounge and can therefore cater for an additional 2 guests if required. The gite has recently been restored and provides a wonderful space for a family stay. When entering the gite from the main courtyard there is a dining area seating 6 guests on the left and then on the right the lounge area with seating and TV equipped with free view UK or French channels. Leading from the lounge is the modern open plan and fully equipped kitchen. Everything is catered for therefore it should be home from home for guests. Beyond the kitchen and the lounge there is a downstairs family bathroom which if locked from the lounge side of the gite becomes a private ensuite bathroom for the adjoining bedroom. The downstairs bedroom is a treat for guests with beautiful views through the window onto the pool area which in spring also has the best cherry blossom to the double doors which lead out onto the vast terrace area.

The best time of day to be on the terrace is before it gets too hot in the morning and it is fantastic to have breakfast here and watch the wild rabbits running around in the garden. The terrace area also has dining for 6 guests and an umbrella should shade be required and not to forget a BBQ and seating area which can be found adjoining to the kitchen through the double french doors. Upstairs leads guests to 2 further bedrooms. On the right is the kids room providing 2 single beds and then to the left there is a further double bedroom which also has its own ensuite bathroom.

Nearest airports are Limoges and Bergerac which are both less than an hour away and Bordeaux slightly further afield at 1h30.

The village of Sorges is famous for its Truffles and has its own museum. There is equally a bakery and small supermarket in the village as well as an Auberge which serves good local food and wine. Further a field, all main shops can be found in Périgeux so civilisation is just around the corner for those needing it.

Outside the back of the property leads to the gardens which are just over 1 hectare in size. Beyond the gardens leads onto 50km of marked trails which meander around the various walnut, dairy, goose and duck farms.

No stay is complete without a visit to Brantome (“the Venice of the Dordogne”) where visitors can wander around the cobbled streets, or have lunch / dinner at one of the various restaurants or cafes along the river. Périgueux, Sarlat-la-Canéda are also within easy reach and are a must on any travelers list of places to visit.

For those wishing for more leisure activities the Dordogne is perfect for cycling and running. The rolling hills will test the endurance of the keenest cyclist however there is always the possibility of stopping by one of the many “Plan d’eau” facilities to take a well earned break and to cool off in the warm water. The closest Plan d’eau is located just outside of Thiviers and offers supervised lake swimming, beach, shaded grass area, play park for the kids and a local cafe for snacks and refreshments.
