The Tobacco Barn at Le Serpen is an idyllic countryside getaway. Newly renovated, the self-contained barn is a light and airy property with exclusive use of a heated secluded pool and a shaded deck area. It is a perfect base for exploring the many delights of the local area: vineyards, chateaux and markets. Fabulous for relaxing at the property, enjoying BBQ's in the sunshine and sipping a glass of wine by the pool. The property offers hammocks under the shade of trees and a gravelled fire-pit area.
The Tobacco Barn provides spacious and comfortable accommodation for 4 to 8 people. There are two bedrooms each with a king-sized bed and ensuite shower room. The second bedroom also has a mezzanine with two single beds so it can be used as a family room. (Please note that the mezzanine is accessed by a steep, narrow staircase).
There is an open-plan living, dining and kitchen area with a seperate WC. The sitting room is on a mezzanine and includes a large, comfortable double sofa bed, a TV, DVD player and numerous games to keep the family entertained and WiFi is available throughout the gite. The wood burning stove makes the place perfect for a cosy winter break. Outside, the terrace faces west with lovely views of the sunset across the meadow. The swimming pool is easily accessible a few yards away.
The local village has a well-stocked shop and a friendly café/bar and an excellent soirée gourmande on Friday evenings in summer. Eymet with its many shops, restaurants, bars, markets and tourist information office is a ten minute drive away. We are a few minutes drive from the Lac de Lescourroux with its walking and cycling trails and nature reserve. Bergerac is less than half an hour's drive away. There are several local vineyards for wine tasting and chateau Monbazillac is less than half an hour away. Chateau Bridoire with its furnished rooms and medieval games is a great favourite with young people as is the chateau in Duras, less than 20 kilometres away.
The Tobacco Barn is within easy reach of a myriad of tourist sites: chateaux, medieval villages and bastide towns, vineyards, caves, museums, churches, gardens - the list goes on! The famous sites of the Dordogne, including the prehistoric caves of Lascaux and Les Eyzies, the cathedral city of Perigeux, the castle and gardens at Beynac, Sarlat-le-Caneda and many more, are all potential day trips.
If you want to be active, you can go canoeing and kayaking on the nearby river Dropt or the Dordogne river. If you don't want to propel yourself, boat trips on the Dordogne are available in Bergerac. Lougratte near Castillones has a lakeside beach with facilities. There is also a first class golf course 20 minutes away. Hot air balloon rides are available from nearby vineyards. Parc-en-ciel is about an hour away and Accrobranche is even closer. There is so much to do here, the only problem will be fitting it all in.
But if you just want to relax away from it all in peaceful surroundings with beautiful views, perhaps with a glass of the local wine, The Tobacco Barn is pure heaven.
A wonderful holiday awaits.
"A tranquil setting with stunning views, for a relaxing holiday with the family. The Tobacco Barn has been beautifully converted and has everything you need to enjoy your stay...including a heated pool surrounded by flowers and fields. Adrienne and Jan were the perfect hosts, on hand if we needed anything. We hired a car for easy supermarket runs and trips into Eymet and Bergerac. We also strolled into the local village of Sauvetat du Dropt most mornings to visit the local bakery for bread and croissants and also visited the local bar for an afternoon beer. We would highly recommend this property if you are looking for a peaceful stay in the gorgeous French countryside." (Tom, June 2019).
"We had a weeks stay at Adrienne's converted tobacco barn. It was exactly as described, and true to her description and photos. Everything was spotlessly clean, furnished well, excellent linens and towels, and a really well equipped kitchen. Adrienne was on hand if we needed advice, but in reality all the information on the area has been thoughtfully provided in a file in the accommodation. The area is stunning, fields of wildflower meadows, sunflowers and food crops. It all made for a stunning view, and sitting at the breakfast table watching the wildlife in this peaceful haven was just idyllic." (Rosie, July 2018).
“This holiday was truly amazing for a number of reasons. Firstly, Adrienne and Jan are welcoming and thoughtful hosts, nothing was too much bother for them. They were very informative about what was going on locally, Which helped us plan and get the most from our time away. The property itself is quite simply beautiful and homely, finished to an exceptional standard, with all the extra items that cater for every possible scenario on a holiday with children...games, books, pool toys, and not to forget the much loved hammocks! We have enjoyed two weeks of bliss and we’re not ready to come home. Whether you have an family full of energy and fun who need to be occupied, or you are in need of a tranquil haven, this is the place for you. We highly recommend Le Serpen, and look forward to returning." (Hilary, July 2018).
