The perfect combination of authentic French charm within walking distance of the local facilities and all the luxuries you would expect, you’ll be sure to make wonderful holiday memories here.
La Rive is our popular family gite, packed with French charm with a spacious and bright open plan living/dining area enjoying views over the courtyard and waterfall. Tastefully renovated with exposed beams and original stonework it gives you a real sense of history, whilst feeling modern and comfortable.
La Rive is one of three gites sleeping a total of 16 people. The other two gites are no. 151 and 150 on here.
Accessed via grand French doors, the gite boasts a generous, open-plan kitchen, lounge and dining area which provides a lovely space for socialising together and relaxing. Perfect to prepare a traditional home-cooked French meal with local delicacies and wine from the market. A cosy log burner gives a lovely warm feel during the spring and autumnal evenings.
A BBQ is located on the private sun terrace, perfect for al fresco dining then watching the sun set with a glass of wine. There is plenty of sunbathing and relaxing space where you can get tucked in a good book. The three gites share a huge swimming pool which is sure to be popular with children and grown ups alike.
Perfect for a family of four, the two single beds are tucked into the eaves on the enclosed mezzanine, an exciting place for children to make their own. The master bedroom is on the ground floor and has a separate shower room.
If your holiday takes you exploring, the Dordogne region hides tiny villages everywhere, tucked between the hills. You can be as active as you like with local cycle paths and walks threading across the picturesque countryside. About 15 mintues away is the recreation lake at St Estephe, which has a swimming beach, lovely walks, boats and a play park for children. Why not grab a meal and a drink at the cafe too. Canoeing is very popular at nearby Montbron where you can hire equipment and choose your route. The river Tardoire weaves between the hidden chateaux, prehistoric grottos, menhirs and watermills, a truly beautiful backdrop to a wonderful day with family and friends.
Exploring the area further afield there is aerial tree climbing with zip wires and much more family fun. Within an hour’s drive there are galleries, cave tours, karting, golf and the magical gardens of Marqueyssac (imagine 150,000 hand-pruned boxwoods), one of the Dordogne’s most famous and beautiful treasures. A ‘must do’ day trip is enchanting Brantome, adorning postcards for years and known as the Venice of the Dordogne, it’s officially one of the most beautiful villages in France.
Around the gite there is plenty for children to explore in the surrounding gardens, meadows and trees where fresh air and fun is guaranteed! Stay here and experience a proper family holiday, relax, explore and enjoy France at it’s best.
We have many great reviews on our website but here is a small selection:
"My husband and I stayed in La Rive for two weeks during Sept 18. We arrived late, at 10.30 pm, but Rob was on hand to welcome us and show us the ropes etc. The Gite is really well equipped and has everything you could possibly need for two weeks of self catering. The living/kitchen/dining area has plenty of room to move around, the bedroom was a good size and the bathroom was bigger than ours back home with instant hot water at the shower. As the walls were really thick, the gite was really cool to come back into at the end of a long hot day sightseeing. It has a wonderful patio area, overlooking the woods and the stream, and you can watch the sun setting behind the trees, it's quite hard to believe that you are only a hundred or so yards from the village. A really peaceful and tranquil place to be."
"We stayed in ‘La Rive’ during August 2018. The gite has one double bedroom and a mezzanine bedroom with twin beds. The accommodation is simple, but excellent. Because the walls are extremely thick, the gite always provided cool respite when it was hot outside. We made a lot of use of the swimming pool. It’s shared across the 3 gites, but this works well, it’s big enough for all and generally when you want it you get it to yourself. I can’t wait to return."
"We chose La Rive for it's proximity to the village and it was just perfect in that respect - fresh bread in the morning and a beer and a game of petanque in the evening."
"We stayed in La Rive and Le Moulin for one week in early July 2015. We had a wonderful time. The children loved the freedom to be able to explore the stream and its abundant wildlife. The gites were lovely and well appointed and Rob and Sarah were fabulous hosts. Already trying to decide when we can return!"
